Bohroks- from a biological (and not mechanical) point of view (text below).
-Let me start off by saying that this post is NOT related IN ANY WAY to the Bionicle lore, this post will describe the bohroks as physically appearing in a totally biological way, even though bohroks are mechanical.-
The Bohrok have a monstrous appearance, they remind me of some kind of mix between the Kaiju Orga and a Xenomorph. They are also called "the bugs," which recalls a clearly insectoid appearance, but they are also described as reptilian, which suggests that they are a kind of "hybrid" in terms of design. But let's take a closer look at these creatures.
They have a stocky body, similar to that of a bedbug, but they have limbs on their sides, and like insects and reptiles, they have their limbs on the sides of their bodies, and not completely straight like mammals or Toa. We also know that they can roll up like pill bugs or armadillo lizards (in the picture). Like insects, they have large eyes.
They are equipped with long, sharp teeth, which may suggest that their diet was carnivorous, related to arachnids or theropod dinosaurs. Their hunting method is very similar to that of snapping turtles, which "snap" their necks forward very quickly and bite their prey, pulling the head back to consume the loot.
Their shields are different and could be interpreted in various ways. Pahrak, Gahlok, and Nuvhok appear to have "clawed fingers." Pahrak has three, which refers to reptiles, which refer, again, to theropod dinosaurs (the same could be true for Nuvhok). Gahlok has shields that resemble webbed feet, like those of amphibians. The theory that the shields are clawed hands is strengthened by the fact that in the Bahrag Queens set, where Pahrak shields are used to simulate chicken or raptor-like legs. Levhak could have "pincers" similar to those of lobsters or very massive claws. The most bizarre ones are those of Nuvhok and Tahnok. Nuvhok has actual "buzz saws" as shields. These shields may have the same structure as the teeth of Helicoprion, which has teeth arranged in a circular saw-like pattern. This would make Nuvhok the most clawed being ever seen. Tahnok, instead of a middle finger, has a "flame" for a hand, but we could simply assume that it is a more curved claw.
Another characteristic of the Bohrok is the transparency on the upper part of the skull, through which the Krana can be seen. This feature is given by the fact that they are partly based on the Xenomorphs, even with regards to their elongated skull, which is a bit stockier and shorter than their inspiration. They could also let the Krana out through an opening that would function like crab claws, that "shoot" their Krana through hydraulic pressure, like arachnids. Krana may release chemicals similar to neurotransmitters (such as dopamine or serotonin) to influence the host's brain. This would be similar to the effects of psychoactive drugs or toxins from some real parasites (e.g. the fungus Ophiocordyceps in insects).
Their legs, on the other hand, are very classic, flat, and stocky and have only two toes, which could be interpreted as those of a theropod or the two claws of grasshoppers. But they are far too stubby to be insect claws, so they are more reptilian than insectoid.
Bohroks have hive-like nests, and here are 2 hypotheses:
Bohrok have a larval stage.
Beehives serve as protectors for the eggs. Then maybe, who knows, we could get some tasty Bohrok honey.
Their powers, could be like this:
Tahnok: Exothermic chemical reactions, such as the combustion of a thermite-like compound. Gahlok: Ultrasonic waves, to move the water like some cetaceans do. Levhak: Glands similar to those of some insects, which produce corrosive mixtures. Nuvhok: Directed seismic waves, generated by internal hammers that hit the ground, like some moles do. Kohrak: Ultra-efficient heat exchange, absorbing heat from the environment to cool it rapidly. Pahrak: Local magnetic fields, to move metallic or siliceous minerals.
Here I have finished my words, in the future maybe I will bring other species of the Matoran universe.
The next choices will be: Bohrok-Kal Bahrag Queens.
